The president of ChileCarne, Juan Carlos Domínguez, was part of the public-private delegation that accompanied the Undersecretary of Agriculture on a tour of China and Vietnam to strengthen ties with APEC economies, advance animal health matters, and open new opportunities for Chilean exports.
Alongside representatives from Fruits from Chile and the Chilean Meat Packers Association (Faenacar), Domínguez participated in a packed agenda covering strategic issues for the agri-export sector and public-private collaboration in markets of growing importance to Chile.
The tour began in Dalian, China, where the delegation attended the APEC Customs-Business Dialogue 2026, an event that brought together authorities and private-sector representatives to address challenges in food security, trade facilitation, and the supply chain.
The delegation’s agenda continued in Hangzhou, China, at the 11th APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting, attended by ministers and senior officials from the Asia-Pacific economies. The meeting emphasized the importance of a more productive, modern, and competitive agriculture that is open to the world, as well as the role of innovation, digital agriculture, and artificial intelligence in optimizing resource use, increasing productivity, managing risk, and accessing new markets.
The agenda also included meetings and visits to companies and supermarket chains in Hangzhou, where the delegation learned firsthand about the requirements and opportunities the Chinese market offers for Chilean agri-food products.
Visiting different points of sale provides insight into product quality, packaging, and format, as well as interest in Chile’s offer. These visits provided a deeper understanding of the trends and demands of one of the primary markets for Chilean exports.
The delegation continued on to Vietnam, where it focused on deepening agricultural, scientific, and technological cooperation between the two countries. The group visited the National Agricultural University of Vietnam, where they learned about work in biotechnology, smart agriculture, and climate change adaptation.
It was also an opportunity to explore scientific and academic cooperation, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange, with a focus on innovation, animal health, and specialized human capital. In 2026, Chile and Vietnam celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations, a bond that continues to strengthen through cooperation and the development of new technologies for the agricultural sector.
One of the main events of the tour was a meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Nguyen Hoang Hiep. The meeting covered various strategic matters for the Chilean agricultural export sector, including efforts to advance the sanitary approval required for Chilean pork and poultry to access the Vietnamese market, a matter of particular importance to ChileCarne.
These talks are an opportunity to continue expanding Chilean animal proteins’ presence in Southeast Asia and to advance toward better access conditions for the sector in a market with major potential.
Thanks to Juan Carlos Domínguez’s participation, ChileCarne was able to take a direct part in a strategic agenda for Chilean agri-food exports and to support talks aimed at strengthening trade and sanitary ties with key Asian markets.
Following the activities in China and Vietnam, the Undersecretary of Agriculture continued his tour in Indonesia, while ChileCarne’s president returned to Chile.
For ChileCarne, the efforts made on this mission are especially relevant given the ongoing efforts to open new markets and to continue strengthening the international presence of Chilean meat.
In an increasingly competitive environment, public-private collaboration and an active presence in the markets are essential to continue creating opportunities for the sector and to strengthen Chile’s position as a reliable food supplier worldwide.
