As part of Singapore’s official visit to Chile, Minister for Sustainability and Environment Grace Fu led a delegation with a packed schedule, which included gaining firsthand insight into the production model and standards of the Chilean meat industry.
On April 20, the delegation visited Agrosuper’s slaughter plant in Rosario, where they were welcomed by Juan Carlos Domínguez, president of ChileCarne, and the Agrosuper team led by Guillermo Díaz del Río, along with Nicolás Rosenfeld and Fernando Herman.
Throughout the day, Juan Carlos Domínguez discussed Chile’s role as a reliable global food supplier, highlighting the strength of the export sector. Fernando Herman spoke about the evolution of environmental stewardship in pig farming, with an emphasis on solutions based in circular economy, such as the treatment and recovery of slurry, the use of biodigesters for renewable energy generation, and the production of organic fertilizers and compost. The delegation also gained a comprehensive understanding of the production and processing system, including all the requirements set by the markets to which pork is exported.
On April 21, the ministerial delegation held a meeting at ChileCarne with representatives from the country’s pork exporters—Coexca, AASA, Maxagro, and Agrosuper. The meeting covered key aspects of pork and poultry production and exports in Chile, as well as the companies’ competitive advantages and their growing presence in international markets.
The delegation included three representatives from the Singapore Meat Traders’ Association: Jack Lee of Jokia; Jeremy Goh of Leong Hup Food; and Lim Wee Kiat of Hen Tick Food. Their participation made the visit particularly meaningful and helped to deepen understanding of the Chilean pork and poultry sectors, as well as to explore opportunities for collaboration and strengthen trade between the two countries.
The visit is a reflection of Chile and Singapore’s shared interest in developing more sustainable production systems, strengthening knowledge sharing, and cementing strategic ties that will help address global challenges in food security and environmental protection.
