The 2026 Nuffield Chile Conference explored the challenges of sustainability and the future of food production

The 2026 Nuffield Chile Conference, entitled “Promoting Sustainability in Agriculture,” brought together producers, specialists, academics, and leaders from the agricultural sector to reflect on the main challenges facing agriculture in a context marked by climate change, growing demand for food, and new demands from international markets. Nuffield Chile—an organization that works to develop leaders in the agri-food sector through a network spanning several countries—organized the event as a space for dialogue on the sector’s future and opportunities to move toward more sustainable production systems.
The president of ChileCarne, Juan Carlos Domínguez, participated in the panel discussion “The Future of Sustainable Agriculture,” where he shared the sector’s perspective on the opportunities and challenges that will shape food production in the coming decades.
“Sustainability is no longer a choice, it is now something that markets demand. We must be able to produce more food with fewer resources and less environmental impact, in order to meet the needs of an ever-growing global population,” he said.
He also highlighted the role that technology, digitalization, and artificial intelligence play in improving productivity, optimizing the use of resources, and responding to environmental challenges. Along those lines, he stressed that innovation must serve a greater purpose: guaranteeing sustainable food production for future generations.
Finally, he called on the next generation of leaders to work together, build consensus, and develop a long-term vision that treats food production as a strategic objective for Chile.
The conference also included sessions focused on various aspects of sustainable agricultural development, including soil regeneration, the use of organic inputs, regenerative livestock farming, efficient water resource management, and the future prospects for agricultural production in Chile.
ChileCarne’s participation in this event reaffirms the sector’s commitment to increasingly efficient, sustainable, and innovative food production, based on continuous improvement and collaborative efforts.
