Joint work and emerging challenges mark meeting between ChileCarne and Minister of Agriculture

On October 2nd, Chile’s Minister of Agriculture, Ignacia Fernández, hosted representatives of ChileCarne, led by its president, Juan Carlos Domínguez, to discuss the main priorities and challenges facing the meat sector in the coming months.

One of the key topics was progress in opening new international markets, with a special focus on Vietnam. Thanks to its sustained growth and a population exceeding 100 million people, the country is expected to become a key destination for Chilean pork and poultry exports. The sector has made progress in obtaining animal health authorizations to enter its market, which represents an excellent opportunity to diversify and strengthen Chile’s presence in Asia.

At the meeting, the importance of strengthening border controls to prevent the entry of exotic diseases was also emphasized, along with continuing actions to promote animal health, welfare, and food safety, which are fundamental pillars of the sector’s export performance. These aspects, combined with the strategic pillar of sustainability, underpin a more efficient, responsible production aligned with international trade trends. In this context, ChileCarne celebrated the ministry’s willingness to engage in dialogue and collaborate towards advancing the shared agenda.

The importance of public-private collaboration to protect animal health at the border was also highlighted, an area in which the sector is constantly collaborating with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG). This joint effort has allowed Chile to maintain its privileged health and biosecurity status, safeguarding its animal health and the trust of international markets.
