With Minister of Agriculture Jaime Campos in attendance, the association held its 2026 Annual Assembly, where participants analyzed the sector’s primary sanitary, regulatory, and commercial challenges, as well as growth opportunities for Chilean pork and poultry exports.
With representatives from the country’s pork and poultry producers and exporters in attendance, ChileCarne held its 2026 Annual Assembly on May 29 at Viña Santa Rita. The event featured a presentation by Juan Carlos Domínguez, president of ChileCarne, who reviewed the organization’s performance for the period from June 2025 to May 2026. Domínguez highlighted the progress made in health, regulatory, trade and market access matters, as well as the efforts undertaken in collaboration with national and international authorities and organizations to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness.
The Minister of Agriculture, Jaime Campos, addressed the challenges currently facing the meat export sector in an increasingly demanding global context characterized by new regulations, stricter health standards, and growing sustainability requirements. He also stressed the role of public-private partnerships in cementing Chile’s position as a trusted food supplier and making progress on issues such as sanitary zoning, the modernization of certification processes, and coordination between producers along the supply chain.
Afterwards, Juan Carlos Domínguez provided an analysis of trends in pork and poultry exports, along with an overview of the most significant issues impacting the sector. These include stricter health requirements in destination markets, the emergence of new regulatory and trade barriers, and the need to meet growing demand for sustainable production systems. These challenges were addressed from different perspectives that are critical to the sector’s development and competitiveness.
With regard to health, he emphasized the need to continue strengthening biosecurity measures to keep out diseases that have a major impact on animal production, such as avian influenza and African swine fever, which are currently some of the biggest threats to the sector worldwide.
The challenges associated with land-use planning and sustainable production growth were also touched upon, along with the need for regulatory frameworks that allow the sector to stay competitive without compromising the high environmental and health standards for which Chile is known.
Global markets and opportunities for growth
On the trade front, developments in opening and consolidating international markets were highlighted, as were growth opportunities for Chilean exports to key strategic destinations. Emphasis was placed on continuing to strengthen the international presence of Chilean meat and deepening collaboration between companies, producers, and authorities to address the challenges of an increasingly competitive global landscape.
The presentation also showcased the sector’s efforts to strengthen Chile’s position as a trusted food supplier, based on high standards of animal health, food safety, and compliance with the requirements of international markets. “Chile has succeeded in establishing itself as a leading food exporter thanks to the joint efforts of companies, producers, and government authorities. Today, we are facing a new global era marked by stricter health, regulatory, and trade requirements, which calls for us to continue improving our competitiveness and adaptability,” said Juan Carlos Domínguez.
The 2026 Annual Assembly was a chance to take stock of the progress made by the sector over the past year and analyze the challenges that will shape its future. ChileCarne renewed its commitment to promoting initiatives aimed at strengthening competitiveness, animal health, sustainability, and market access for Chilean meat.
