On Monday, May 23rd, Juan Carlos Domínguez, President of ChileCarne, and other representatives of the association held an interesting meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela.
On the occasion, ChileCarne provided Minister Valenzuela with the main figures of the poultry and pork industry, its contribution to the economic growth of communities in Chile’s central region, and the actions carried out in animal health and welfare, food safety, sustainability, the opening and maintaining of new markets.
The head of Agriculture valued the work done by the industry in sustainability, highlighting the joint work with the Chile Conscious Origin program and in circular economy, in which the industry has invested over 231 million USD to treat 80% of the slurry, recirculate and reuse more than 62% of the water extracted, and benefit over 10,000 farmers that use manure as fertilizer.
Finally, they highlighted the public-private work done to protect Chile’s biosecurity borders, where the white meat industry collaborates with the Agricultural and Livestock Service, allowing the country to be free of diseases and thus protect animal health.
