The authorization of these three plants will enable the growth of Chilean meat exports to China. The news was confirmed by the Chilean embassy in the Asian country, who had been notified by Chinese Customs.
The authorized plants are Agrosuper’s Lo Miranda poultry slaughter plant and AASA’s Comafri pork slaughter plant, in addition to the Precisa meat-packing facility, which did not have permission to export to China until now.
The news was welcomed by the Chilean Meat Exporters’ Association, ChileCarne, who describes it as a crucial step to keep consolidating Chile’s position in Asia. “It took several years of hard work, where the Ministry of Agriculture, SAG, the Chilean and Chinese embassies, companies, and the association committed themselves to seeing this project through in order to increase the supply of Chilean meat in the Chinese market,” said Rodrigo Castañón, ChileCarne’s Business Director.
The authorization of these facilities comes at a significant moment for the Asian market, which has been shaken by African swine fever. Although there are no exact estimates about the potential increase in Chilean shipments to China, there has been a 25% increase in pork exports up to this date, which suggests there could be a higher increase by the end of 2019.[:]
