The city of New Orleans, Louisiana hosted representatives from 32 member countries and 55 member organizations of the International Poultry Council (IPC) for a new edition of its First Semester Conference, which took place from April 13 to 18, 2019.
Chile is one of the founding members of this international association created in 2005, which represents 82% of the world’s poultry production, and aims to strengthen communication between industries from different countries, represent the sector in international organizations, as well as cooperate in the global development of the industry.
As in previous years, the Chilean Meat Exporters’ Association (ChileCarne) attended this important event and took part in different working groups and general sessions. The main topics discussed throughout the sessions were the sustainability of the industry, animal welfare, and responsible use of antibiotics.
Juan Carlos Domínguez, Executive President of ChileCarne stressed the importance of this type of meeting to learn about global trends in animal production, and he also outlined potential scenarios for the near future. “The global population and income growth will translate into a significant increase in the demand for animal protein over the next 20 years. The main challenge for our industry will be meeting this demand while complying with the new sustainability requirements and standards the industry needs.”
