With the aim of experiencing Chile’s export potential and product diversity first-hand, the ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries attended a field visit organized by the Chilean Industry Federation, SOFOFA, accompanied by ChileCarne. ASEAN is an intergovernmental organization of ten southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. With a combined GDP of more than 3.5 trillion USD, ASEAN is the sixth largest economic bloc worldwide, third in population, and fourth in international trade.
The visit took place on Friday, May 27th, and consisted of a tour of various Sutil companies’ facilities. The meeting was coordinated by Juan Eduardo Errázuriz, Vice President of SOFOFA’s International Committee, and Óscar Jadue, President of the Chile-Thailand Business Council. Senior Chilean-based officials from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand attended the visit.
“With more than 680 million inhabitants, ASEAN and its member countries are a strategic partner for the food exporting sector. The work done by SOFOFA and its business councils is vital to strengthen the relationship between Chile and ASEAN and thus diversify our exports’ destination markets. In turn, Chile offers ASEAN a significant gateway to Latin America and hence the interest is mutual,” said Juan Carlos Domínguez, President of ChileCarne, after the visit.
