Figures from Chilean Customs for January to June of 2021 show that poultry, chicken, and turkey registered shipments for 202 million USD, while in 2020 they reached 201 million USD. In turn, Chilean pork counted shipments for 460 million USD, while exports during the same period in 2020 reached 406 million USD. This represents a 13% increase compared to 2020.
As for the primary destination markets for chicken, the United States ranks first with 101 million USD (76 million USD in 2020), followed by Mexico with 36 million, and China with 25 million.
Regarding pork, China remains the main destination, with 68% of total Chilean exports, equivalent to 311 million USD. This is a slight increase from the previous year, in which 65% of the total was exported to this country, equivalent to 266 million USD. Japan ranked second with 64 million USD, followed by South Korea with 60 million USD.
Meanwhile, the primary destination markets for Chilean turkey are China and Peru, with 5 million USD each, followed by the US with 4 million USD.
Due to COVID-19 and different changes around the world, the meat industry continues to face new challenges during the second half of 2021. The sector will continue to make every effort to maintain and ideally boost these positive figures.
