Trade with Asia was 44% of Chile’s global trade in the first 9 months of the year, with a 21% variation compared to the same period of 2017. 64% of the operations with Asia corresponded to exports, which meant an increase of 6,017 million dollars, in contrast to the same period of the previous year. Of the products purchased by Chile from Asia, in the non-fuel sector, it is possible to highlight, in terms of the FOB amount, the purchase of cars and cell phones. In relation to the main trading partners with this continent, China (62%), Japan (14%) and South Korea (10%) stand out, which together account for 86% of trade with Asia.
On the other hand, Chile’s trade with the American continent reached 40,054 million dollars, which is the equivalent of 38% of the total global trade with an increase of 13% in comparison to the value of the same period of 2017. Purchases from the American countries had an increase of 18%, while the mining sector presented a positive variation of 9%. Finally, the exchange with Europe amounted to 17,402 million dollars, 15% more than in the January-September period of 2017. Both exports and imports from the countries of this continent increased by 14% and 17%, respectively. It should be noted that 76% of the commercial exchange with Europe was made with the EU countries.
