As part of a tour of Maxagro’s facilities in the Chilean Ñuble region, representatives from the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) visited the Rucapequén farm to see the advances the company has made in biosecurity, animal welfare, and sustainability.
SAG’s delegation headed by the National Director, José Guajardo, was joined by Maxagro’s General Manager, Pablo Espinosa, and ChileCarne’s Business Manager, Rodrigo Castañón, and Communications and Marketing Manager, Pía Barros.
The visit focused on Maxagro’s role at the local level and the work being done to consolidate the company’s commitment to sustainability, with an emphasis on innovations in animal health and environmental management, as well as numerous outreach initiatives with neighboring communities.
During the tour of the facilities, the delegation observed the biosecurity measures that have been implemented, as well as slurry management and energy production using biogas. This focus on circular economy and emission reduction was one of the aspects underscored by the authorities.
José Guajardo celebrated the initiatives and underscored the importance of these innovations. “It was a great experience. I know their pig farms, but it is important to keep talking about innovation, what’s being done and how production can become increasingly sustainable in the area. It’s my first time at this farm to see what they’re doing with the slurry, with methane and other gases, with everything energy related. In terms of circular economy, what they’re doing with energy goes in line with the times we live in. I am pleased, satisfied, and grateful for the work we are doing with ChileCarne to position Chile abroad as major supplier for Asia and other countries,” he commented.
Pablo Espinosa highlighted the importance of working with the public sector to achieve the industry’s sustainability goals. “It was quite a positive visit. Public-private collaboration is very important, as well as having conversations about the positive and negative aspects, so we can focus our work with the future in mind,” said Maxagro’s representative.
The visit concluded with a tour of the plant’s biodigester, for officials to see first-hand how the company is transforming pig production waste into clean energy, thus helping reduce the carbon footprint of its operations.
Maxagro’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in biosecurity not only reaffirms its leadership in the agricultural and livestock sector, but also positions Chile as a leader in sustainable pork production, opening new opportunities in international markets, especially in Asia.
