In a key meeting at the San Fernando Campus of Universidad de O’Higgins (UOH), representatives from ChileCarne and academics from the university’s Institute of Agri-Food, Animal and Environmental Sciences (ICA3) explored opportunities for collaboration in animal husbandry. The goal of the meeting was to strengthen ties between scientific research and production.
ChileCarne was represented by its President, Juan Carlos Domínguez; Business Manager, Rodrigo Castañón; and technical team members Daniela Álvarez, Renzo Boccanegra, Matías Andrade, and Simón Araya. UOH was represented by professors and scientists, including Dr. Paula Toro, a specialist in the sustainable management of livestock systems; Dr. Gabriel Arriagada, an expert in veterinary epidemiology; Dr. Jaime Figueroa, renowned for his research in swine production; and other specialists in areas such as environmental management, food safety, and biodiversity.
The attendees discussed areas of common interest, highlighting topics such as efficiency in meat production, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation applied to the industry. Both parties agreed on the importance of integrating scientific developments into practical contexts to respond to the challenges faced by the Chilean agri-food sector.
This approach reinforces both ChileCarne and UOH’s commitment to work together on solutions that promote more sustainable and competitive animal husbandry. By strengthening ties between academia and industry, this collaboration has the potential produce a positive impact both locally and nationally, consolidating Chile as a leading producer of high-quality animal proteins.
